Romanian Gecad Group invests in British e-commerce startup Tynka

19 March 2014

Gecad Group, founded by Romanian entrepreneur Radu Georgescu, has invested in Tynka, a startup from Newcastle, UK.

Gecad will also advise the team of young entrepreneurs behind Tynka, and help the company achieve its business targets.

“We particularly support young entrepreneurs and companies that focus on niche segments. Tynka has the advantage of being created by students who understand the needs of those who are the same. We hope to manage to expand the activity of this company to global level in the near future,” said Radu Georgescu, founding partner Gecad Group, quoted by local Wall-street.ro.

Developed by a team of young graduates, Tynka is an app that allows students to be up to date with specific activities and events within and outside campus. Students may also use this platform to join student groups, to confirm their participation in certain activities and to buy tickets to different events.

Tynka launched the beta version of the platform in early-February 2014 and has over 10,000 registered users from 11 universities in UK. By the end of the year, Tynka plans to cover most of the universities in the UK.

Among Tynka’s investors, there is also Northstar Ventures, an investment fund based in Newcastle.

Gecad Group recently sold its Axigen Messaging, which allows companies to create their own e-mail server.
