Romanian engineer kidnapped in Nigeria, released

The Romanian Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) announced last evening that the Romanian citizen who had been kidnapped in Nigeria on Monday was released.

The ministry didn’t offer additional details. It only thanked the institutions that took part in the MAE Crisis Cell and the Nigerian authorities for their involvement and support in this case.

A Romanian engineer was kidnapped in the south of Nigeria on Monday by unidentified armed individuals. The incident took place at a site for the construction of a railway near the Owa Oyibu village located in the Agbor province, in the south of Nigeria.

Armed individuals attacked a group escorting a construction team and managed to kidnap a Romanian engineer. The Nigerian authorities later confirmed the armed incident and the kidnapping.

The Romanian engineer was an employee of the Nigerian construction company Dextron Engineering Ltd.
