Romania signs Swiss agreement, gets financing to fight money laundering

Romania and Switzerland yesterday signed an agreement to fight money laundering and terrorism financing.

On the occasion, the Swiss representatives said the country is currently not working on any projects to return to Romania money or others assets illegally gained.

The agreement was signed by the Romanian Finance Minister Ioana Petrescu and the Swiss Ambassador to Bucharest Jean Hubert Lebet, giving Romania access to financing worth 2.5 million Swiss Francs.

Most of it will be used by the National Office to Prevent and Fight Money Laundry in buying equipment and software and in training staff.

This is agreement is part of a wider cooperation program between Romania and Switzerland aimed at reducing economic and social differences.

The Switzerland pledges to give Romania some 181 million Swiss Francs. The Tax Administration ANAF will get 1.3 million Swiss Francs to efficiently manage its documents.
