Romania came sixth in the country ranking at the e-Sports World Championship (IeSF) organized between December 2 and December 5 in Seoul, South Korea.

The competition gathered 170 players from 28 countries, Romania’s team registering remarkable performances in all three competitions included in the event’s program: Hearthstone, League of Legends, and StarCraft 2.

Romanian Stefan “Moody” Marinescu got bronze at the Hearthstone competition. At the League of Legends and StarCraft 2 competitions, both Silviu “NightEnD” Lazar and the LoL XPC Gaming reached the quarterfinals, coming on the fifth place in the end.

“We can say that Romanian continues the tradition started in 2009, staying among the top ten countries at the e-Sports World Championship,” said Silviu Stroie, PGL president and International e-Sport Federation (IeSF) vice-president.

Serbia was number one in the ranking by country, with 147 points, followed by South Korea with 132 points, and China with 113 points. The top ten was completed by Finland (111 points), Thailand (67), Romania and Philippines (63 points each), Chinese Taipei (48 points), and Switzerland and Russia (43 points each).

IeSF is one of the most important competitions of e-sports in the world, which aims to promote the electronic sports worldwide.

Romania has also hosted its first major CS:GO (Counter-Strike: Global Offensive) Major tournament at the DramHack computer festival in Cluj-Napoca, at end-October this year. PGL has been organising the DramHack e-sports festival in Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca since 2012.
