Romania prepares new tax amnesty
Firms and individuals with debts to the Romanian state, whose payment terms are before the end of June, will be exempt from penalties and half of the interest if they pay their main debt by September 30, according to a document analyzed by Profit.ro.
The remaining 50% interest can be paid by the end of this year.
The Government aims to “stimulate the taxpayers’ voluntary compliance with the payment of tax obligations” in order to maximize budget revenues. The move is similar to the facilities introduced by the Boc Government in 2011 and the Ponta Cabinet in 2015, with the same arguments.
Companies and individuals who want to benefit from this facility will have to file a request with the tax authority by the end of the year.
