Romania posts highest inflation in the EU in January

Romania has a 7 percent inflation rate in January, the highest in the European Union, compared to the average of 2.7 in the EU, according to data from Eurostat. Estonia followed through with an inflation of 5.1 percent, then Greece, with 4.9 percent. The lowest inflation rates were in Ireland – 0.2 percent and Sweden, 1.4 percent.

Romania was also first in terms of the increase of the average inflation between February 2010 and January 2011, compared to the previous 12 months. The inflation in Romania was of 6.2 percent, followed by Greece, with 4.9 percent and Hungary, with 4.5 percent, according to Eurostat.
