Romania is the 12th largest wine producer in the world

Romania's wine production grew by 29 percent last year compared to 2012, to 4.27 million hectoliters, which makes it the 12th largest wine producer in the world, according to data from the International Organization of Vine and Wine OIV, reports local Agerpres.

Italy ranked first with a production of 44.9 million hectoliters, while Spain ranked second with 42.7 million hectoliters, followed by France - 42 million hectoliters.

The US had a production of 22 million hectoliters - up 7 percent year-on-year, followed by Argentina with 15 million hectoliters and Chile with a production of 12.8 million hectoliters.

The global production grew by about 8 percent in 2013, to 276.6 million hectoliters.
