Romania brings French retailer Camaieu higher sales and fourth consecutive loss

French clothing retailer Camaieu, which runs seven stores in Romania, sold EUR 3.6 million worth of clothing items in the country last year, but still did not manage to become profitable after its fourth year of activity in the country.

Launched in 2010 in Romania, Camaieu posted a loss of EUR 300,000 in 2013, lower however than the year before when its stood at some EUR 378,000, according to data from the Finance Ministry, Romania-Insider.com has found.

Its sales in Romania were up, by some EUR 0.5 million on the year before, and have been increasing gradually since 2010.

In its first year of activity in Romania, its sales almost reached the EUR 1 million threshold, while its loss was of EUR 174,000. The second year, sales were almost double, at EUR 1.9 million, while the loss inched up to some EUR 265,000.

Camaieu runs shops in Bucharest – in AFI Palace Cotroceni, Militari Shopping Center, Orhideea and Bucuresti Mall, as well as in Timisoara, Cluj – Napoca and Iasi. Established in 1984, Camaieu runs over 1,000 stores – 600 of which in France – in 18 countries.
