(P) TEDxBucharest 2014 – Meet the Speakers: Adrian Pop

24 November 2014

17 speakers stepped on the stage of TEDxBucharest, in what was called Future Spoler.

Among them, Adrian Pop, the initiator of the Annual Competition for Architectural Students and a member of the PRISPA team (winner of the 2nd place for energetic efficiency at the 2012 edition of the Solar Decathlon Europe Competition), will offer premiere insight in the project that he is currently working on: designing and constructing an educational and vocational centre for the community in a sustainable manner.

The project,  supported by OMV Petrom, mainly addresses the roma community in Boldesti-Scaieni, which represents approximately 10% of the town’s population. The initiative also helps disadvantaged persons, the estimated total of beneficiaries being of over 500 people whose lives are going to be improved.

“Sustainability was a main value of the project since its beginning. On one hand, a technical sustainability, referring to the high quality of the indoor environment, to the minimum impact towards the natural environment and to the compensation of the consumed energy and the produced carbon footprint, and on the other hand a cultural and social sustainability. We chose local materials and techniques which work together with innovative solutions and advanced technologies and we co-opted in the execution team people from the roma community, in order for them to specialize in the constructive techniques that we use”, says Adrian.

What makes the project special is the Passive House concept that the centre is built around, mainly defined by factors such as: energetic efficiency, water independence and “zero waste on the work site” (all the materials used are recycled).

We, the TEDxBucharest team, believe Adrian’s projects to be centered on values that are going to be often taken into consideration in future architectural projects, thus hearing his speech at tomorrow’s event will definitely be a future spoiler!
