No Pants Subway Ride in Bucharest this weekend

07 January 2016

The unusual event No Pants Subway Ride will take place in Bucharest for the second consecutive year this weekend.

On Sunday, January 10, starting 15:00, random passengers of the Bucharest metro will board a subway car at separate stops not completely dressed for winter, as you would expect them to, as they will not be wearing pants. Those who want to take part at this event will meet at the Unirii subway stop, according to the announcement posted on the event’s Facebook page.

The participants also have to follow some rules: have a bag for the pants they will take off once they are in the station, have a valid metro card, wear boxers or shorts, and, of course, be willing to not wear pants.

However, this year’s edition of the event is not only about not wearing pants on the subway but also has a social cause: the participants can donate some of the clothes they don’t need anymore.

Bucharest joined this event in 2015 when a small group organized the first event of this kind on January 11.

Organized by Improv Everywhere in New York City, the event is to be organized in 60 other cities in the world, on the same day. Some of the other cities that will join the event are Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Boston, Brisbane, Copenhagen, Lisbon, London, Los Angeles, Miami, Montreal, Rome, and Washington.
