New ski and snowboard slopes ready for opening in Romania's Western resort of Gărâna

17 December 2013

Three new ski slopes will be open this winter season in the Western part of Romania, in Gărâna, in Caras Severin county. Known for the jazz festival held yearly in this locality, Gărâna will be home to the three new slopes, two for ski, of 500 and 600 meters, and one for snowboard.

The whole compound covers around two hectares and the snow park will also be equipped with snow cannons. The compound is currently in the final check stages and awaiting the last authorizations.

The new slopes in the Semenic mountains add to the existing five slopes, between 500 and 1,200 meters long.

The local authorities hope to establish Gărâna as a holiday resort for families, more of a holiday village, rather than a posh place to spend the holidays.
