Minister: A decision on Romania's stake in former Romtelecom to be taken in May

06 April 2015

The consortium which offers consultancy to the Romanian state in selling its shares in former Romanian telecom company Romtelecom, now Telekom Romania Communications, will present a strategy in the next period, said Sorin Grindeanu, Information Society Minister.

“No later than the end of May, we will be able to go to the Government to present this strategy and make a decision about what the state will do with its 45.99% shares,” according to Grindeanu, cited by local Hotnews.ro.

Greek company OTE, in its turn owned by Deutsche Telekom, has a 54% stake in the former Romtelecom. The Romanian state holds the rest.

Telekom Romania Communications could be estimated at EUR 800 million, whereas the state’s stake would stand at EUR 370 million. Deutsche Telekom is interested in buying the minority stake in former Romtelecom.
