Open-air cinema: Metropolis Caravan kicks off 2023 edition

28 June 2023

The Metropolis Caravan, an initiative that brings outdoor film screenings to various locations in the country, is kicking off this year's edition with a first stop in Tulcea.

Between July 4th and July 9th, the public can see six films, many awarded at top international festivals, at the venue set up in the city's Civic Square. The program includes films that were awarded or nominated at the film festivals held in Venice and San Sebastián, the Golden Gloves, BAFTA, or the Oscars.

The program in Tulcea includes screenings of Louis Garrel's L'innocent, the winner of the 2023 César award for best original script; Xavier Giannoli's Illusions perdues, adapted from Honoré de Balzac's novel of the same name and winner of three César awards for best image, best-adapted script, and best sets; Thierry de Peretti's Enquête sur un scandale d'État; James Huth's Le nouveau jouet; Alexandru Lustig's Nunti, botezuri, inmormantari (Weddings, Christenings and Funerals); and Anthony Fabian's Mrs Harris Goes to Paris.

Three percussion workshops, delivered by musician Emi Ionescu, are also part of the event.

Entrance to the screenings is free of charge, within the available seating. More details are available here.

The event aims to bring European film closer to the general public. After Tulcea, the caravan will head to Făgăraș (July 18th – July 20th), Râșnov (July 21st – July 23rd), and Alexandria (August 1st – August 6th).
