Lower purchasing power changes consumption habits on the Romanian beer market

07 May 2014

The consumption habits on the Romanian beer market are changing due to lower purchasing power, given that in 2013 was recorded the lowest level of consumption in the last 5 years, and a drop of 10 percent compared to 2012, according to the EY Regioplan: The Contribution made by Beer to the European Economy report, quoted by Agerpres.

More and more Romanian consumers chose a cheaper beer, a trend that has become more pronounced in recent years. Given the bottled beer is usually more expensive, this type of beer has also registered a decline since 2008.

Beer is one of the few sectors in Romania that still has a growing local production, and over 95 percent is being produced locally, according to the report.

A total of 17 production units operated on the Romanian beer market in 2012.
