Belgian bakery producer La Lorraine Bakery Group and frozen goods distributor Macromex have opened a frozen bakery factory in Romania following investments of EUR 17 million. The La Lorraine Romania factory is in the Reif industrial park in Campia Turzii.

The project received a EUR 7 million loan from RBS Romania. EU funding and shareholders' contributions covered the rest of the investment. The public contribution part of this project was of EUR 2.9 million, 80 percent covered by the EU and 20 percent by the Romanian state.

La Lorraine Bakery Group has already invested in Poland and the Czech Republic, expanding from its home market Belgium, where it holds most of its production base.

Macromex is a Romanian company set up in 1993 by Romanian investor Dan Minulescu. Lekkerland bought Macromex Conveniences, a subsidiary of Macromex, in 2006. The company is active on the import and distribution of food products.
