JTI Meetings bring Dunas show to Romania this May

10 March 2014

JTI Romania will organize the 15th edition of the JTI Meetings this spring, when dancers and choreographers Maria Pages and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui will present the Dunas show at the Bucharest National Opera, on May 10, 20:00.

“Dunas is of course inspired by dunes - the sand and its metamorphosis. A unique show with original music by Szymon Brzoska and Ruben Lebaniegos - including echoes of flamenco, but also deep, classical and Arabic tones,” reads a JTI statement.

Known internationally for the personal concept on the flamenco art aesthetics, Maria Pages received numerous prizes and distinctions, such as the National Dance Award (creation), the Leonide Massine Award, seven Giraldillo awards at the Biennale of Arte Flamenco, the Award of Culture from the Community of Madrid, as well as the Audience’s Award at Jerez Festival.

Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui created choreographies for Sasha Waltz, Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo and Culberg Ballet dance companies. He was awarded the Choreographer of the Year title, for his work in 2007 and 2008.

In 2009 he was awarded the Kairos European Cultural Prize and was appreciated by the jury for raising “questions about the human existence, expressed through movement, and for connections created between different elements of different cultures”.

Tickets for this event can be purchased from Domo, Vodafone, Germanos and Orange shops, Humanitas and Carturesti bookshops, Sala Palatului, and online from eventim.ro.
