What do Romanians do on the Internet?

In 2014, over one-third of Romanians used the Internet to read online news, find information about goods and services, send emails, and chat via social networks.

Reading online news/newspapers/magazines ranks first among Romanians’ online activities (70.3%), followed by searching for information on goods and services (65.7%), and playing or downloading games images, films or music (45.5%), according to recent data from the National Statistics Institute INS, cited by local Agerpres.

In the last three months of 2014, Romanians mainly accessed the Internet for email correspondence (78.6% of the total number of people who went online in this period), and social networks (67%).

Most of Romania’s active people, namely employees and employers, accessed the Internet to read online news/newspapers/magazines (75%, and 78.4% respectively), and search for information on goods and services (70.6 % and 82.8%).

Three-quarters (77%) of Romania’s unemployed went online for email correspondence while two third of them accessed the Internet to search for information on goods and services.

On the other hand, less than 3 out of 4 pensioners access the Internet to read online news/newspapers/magazines. Almost 98% of Romania’s students go online for communication, and 86.6% for social networks.

There were 9.4 million Internet users aged between 16 and 74 in Romania at the end of 2014.
