Simona joined the Romania Insider team in 2015, first working on our travel guide in English and, later, writing features and interviews for Romania-insider.com. She holds a BA in Romanian and English and an MA in American Studies from the University of Bucharest and started her journalism career in 2003.  Simona divides her time between her hometown Ploiești and Bucharest. While in Ploiești, she enjoys spending time with her family and taking long walks with the family dog. Andrei studied finance at the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies and started his journalism career in 2004 with Ziarul Financiar, the leading financial newspaper in Romania, where he worked for ten years, the last six of which as editor of the capital markets section. He joined the Romania-Insider.com team in 2014 as editor and became Editor-in-Chief in 2016. He currently oversees the daily content published on Romania-Insider.com and likes to stay up to date with everything relevant in business, politics, and life in Romania. Andrei lives with his family in the countryside in Northern Romania, where he built their own house. In his free time, he studies horticulture and tends to his family’s garden. The average room price of Bucharest hotels ranks 22nd in a top of 30 cities based on hotel prices, according to hotel.info, which has put together the top. The average price of a hotel room in Bucharest went up by 3 percent in July, to EUR 81.36, compared to the same month of last year. Compared to June 2008, the room price dropped by 19.4 percent.

Romanians have long ago started to play songs with English lyrics- and sometimes even went for more exotic languages: Portuguese, Brasilian. The sound is sometimes so good that you can't tell from a first audition whether it is a Romanian or a foreign song. There are several Romanian-born songs which became top of the list this summer on radio shows and in clubs. Here are the first three of them.

Ben Lewis, who has won numerous international awards for his documentaries, and is also a television presenter and writer, who contributes regularly to “Prospect”, the “Evening Standard” and the “Sunday Telegraph”, has found and gathered “evidence that the jokes were linked to resistance not apathy. Communist jokes – albeit certain kinds – I now knew, accompanied the fall as well as the rise of Communism.”

Romania's wheat crop has been affected by floods and will stay below the expectations this season, although at a higher level than last year, according to the Agriculture Ministry. The country is expected to harvest 5.7 million tonnes of wheat, 1 million tonnes below the expected level. Most of the crop has already been harvested from 98 percent of the land.

Car maker Ford will start production of a new car in its factory in Romania next year. It will be a small-size car which is not yet in Ford's portfolio, according to John Fleming, head of global manufacturing and labor affairs. 150,000 units of the new car will be produced each year, according to Fleming. Production should start towards September next year.
