Hungarian opposition: Hungarian PM's recent statement on Romania's referendum will affect the Magyar minority

31 July 2012

The recent statement from Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who asked Romanian citizens to make the right decision in the presidential impeachment referendum, is an interference with Romania's internal affairs, said opposition leader Attila Mesterhazy. Orban, who mainly addressed the Hungarian ethnic group in Romania, held a speech in the Romanian resort Baile Tusnad before the referendum.

In Mesterhazy's view, Orban's statement will affect the Hungarian minority in Romania.

The Hungarian PM also praised Romania for its development in the last 10 years. “It managed to keep the country debt under certain limits and make changes which, even if they don't bring a better life, bear the possibility of development and bringing it closer to Hungary, if not even exceeding it,” said the Hungarian PM.
