Head of the Witness Protection Office in Romania arrested for embezzlement
Romania’s anti-corruption prosecutors detained yesterday evening Adrian Barascu, the head of the National Office for Witness Protection (ONPM), as well as a psychologist and a chief commissioner within the institution.
They have embezzled funds which should have been used for the witness protection program, according to prosecutors.
Barascu is charged with organizing a criminal group, embezzlement of funds, forgery, abuse of office and influencing the statements. Between September and December 2013, the defendant and other people organized a criminal group which embezzled funds between 2014 and November 2015.
