Giant domino pieces to connect two major squares in Romania’s Cluj-Napoca this weekend

23 September 2015

A total of 3,000 giant domino pieces will connect the Unirii Square and the Mihai Vitezu Square in Cluj-Napoca, central Romania, this Saturday (September 26). The line of dominoes will stretch over 1.2 kilometers. The event is called Cluj Dominos and will start at 17:00.

‘Dominoes’ is a moving sculpture specially adapted to the context of each city in which it is presented. In recent years, the project was present in cities such as London, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Marseille, Helsinki, and Ljubljana.

In Cluj-Napoca, the line of dominoes will start in Unirii Square (west side) and will then cross the courtyard of the Consulate General of Hungary, will pass by Casa Matei, through the Shadow Bar, Muzeului Square, I.L. Caragiale Park, crosses Ferdinand street, enters the Central Store, and reaches the Florin Piersic Cinema and Mihai Viteazu Square through Tipografiei street and David Ferenc street. See the route here.

The event involves over 120 volunteers. Those who want to be a volunteer in this project can register on the event’s website here.

“AltArt wants to dedicate this event to the special moment when Cluj-Napoca’s candidacy for the title of European Capital of Culture 2021 will come to an end,” said István Szakáts, president of AltArt Foundation, the event’s organizer.

Station House Opera creates the event produced by Artsadmin (UK) and organized by AltArt Foundation.
