Foreign investments halve in Romania, cover just 2% of European projects

The foreign investment projects in Romania almost halved last year, according to a recent study by Ernst & Young. Foreign direct investment projects (FDI) dropped by 48 percent last year, triggering a drop of 44 percent in the creation of new jobs. The value of the FDI projects in Romania last year was of EUR 4.8 billion, according to Romanian Central Bank (BNR) statistics.

Romania attracted 75 direct foreign investment projects last year, which was a mere 2 percent out of the total FDI projects in Europe. These projects generated 6,384 new jobs – around 5 percent of the new jobs in Europe, according to the study. In 2008, there were 145 FDI projects which generated 11,400 new jobs.
