One of the famous monasteries in Romania's Moldova region, the Putna Monastery, will go through a revamping process thanks to EUR 2.5 million in EU financing.

The authorities will use the funds to restore and better preserve the monastery, which is 540 years old.

Another EUR 1 million will help revamp another historic church in the county of Suceava, the Sfantul Simion church which is 400 years old.

The Putna monastery is the first monastery raised under the rule of Moldovan ruler Stephen the Great (Stefan cel Mare), and hosts his tomb. The monastery was finalized in 1481.
