EADS's Premium Aerotec inaugurates EUR 40 mln Airbus component factory in Romania

Premium Aerotec, which produces structures for airplanes, part of the German EADS group, has recently oficially opened its factory in Ghimbav, Romania, close to Brasov. The investment in this factory was of EUR 40 million. Production on the 60,000 sqm site started at the end of last year, when the first construction phase was finalized. Works on the second phase have been recently ended and the factory is now fully functional. The development of the production will continue until 2012.

The new plant will specialise in the production and assembly of metal components for all Airbus series programmes, being a key element of Aeropark Brasov, the heart of Romania's aeronautics industry, according to officials.The decision to establish a new plant in Ghimbav was made in spring 2010 and the factory will work with a staff of 500. "This new Premium Aerotec facility will become an  important part of the EADS Group's supply chain," said Louis Gallois, CEO of EADS, who attended today's inauguration ceremony in Romania.

Premium Aerotec has over 7,000 employees in four other factories in Germany. In 2010, it posted a turnover of EUR 1.3 billion.
