Difficult economic conditions and poor weather behind Heineken’s falling revenues in Romania, says company

25 October 2013

Beer producer Heineken saw its sales in Romania decreasing in the third quarter of the year, mainly due to difficult economic conditions and poor weather.

In the central and eastern European region, the group's beer volume declined by 7 percent "organically," reads the group’s report.

This reflects "lower consumer spending in Russia, Romania and Greece and poor weather across the region in September," it adds.

Heineken’s consolidated revenues in central and eastern Europe declined by 4 percent in the quarter.

At a group level, Heineken's consolidated revenue increased 4 percent to EUR 5.1 billion, while the reported net profit was EUR 483 million, down from EUR 568 million recorded in the third quarter of 2012.

Heineken Romania ended 2012 with a turnover of EUR 266 million, an increase of 13.2 percent on the year before.

Heineken has four breweries in Romania in Miercurea Ciuc, Constanta, Craiova and Targu Mures, and some 1,100 employees.
