Looking to buy some cool gifts for your friends and family, or just to get into the Christmas atmosphere a bit earlier? Here are some of the largest Christmas fairs which will take place in Bucharest and elsewhere in Romania this year. The list will be updated.

Bucharest Christmas Market 2014
When: November 29 to December 28, each day from 12:00 to 22:00
Where: Piata Universitatii and Cismigiu Garden
This Christmas market is organised by the Bucharest Municipality. More than 100 house-shaped kiosks host merchants selling traditional objects, painted pottery, carved wood, Orthodox icons and traditional clothing, as well as Christmas decorations. Traditional food and mulled wine are also available. Find more here.

Christmas Fairs’ Marathon
When: November 28 to December 23, each day from 12:00 to 20:00
Where: Toma Caragiu Str., behind Sutu Palace (it’s very close to Piata Universitatii)
This street fair promotes handmade clothes and accessories, bio cosmetics, vintage and antiques. Find more here.

Bucharest Christmas Shopping
When: December 1-21, each day from 12:00 to 20:00
Where: Romexpo (65-67 Marasti Blvd., near Piata Presei Libere, behind City Gate office towers)
One of the largest Christmas fairs in Romania. Hosts more than 250 exhibitors, plus artistic events and amusement park. And a lot of shopping opportunities. See more here.

Christmas Presents Fair at Sala Dalles
When: November 28 to December 23, each day from 10:00 to 20:00
Where: Dalles Gallery (18 Nicolae Balcescu Blvd., going from Intercontinental hotel to Piata Romana)
All sorts of Christmas gifts. Free entry.

Saint Nicholas Fair
When: December 5-7
Where: Romanian Peasant’s Museum (Muzeul Taranului Roman, in Piata Victoriei, 3 Kiseleff Str.)
Traditional craftsmen from all over Romania come to display and sell pottery, carved wood items, leather coats, popular costumes, traditional food and more.

Christmas at The Grand Chocolate Factory
When: December 5-21, from 14:00 to 21:00 (Mo to Fri), from 11:00 to 21:00 (Sat and Sun)
Where: The Grand Avenue Shopping Gallery within JW Marriott Bucharest Grand Hotel
Chocolate, gingerbread, toys and other gifts.

Weihnachtsmarkt 2014 (German Embassy’s Christmas Fair)
When: Friday, December 12, from 16:30 to 20:30
Where: German Embassy in Bucharest, 6-8 Av. Gheorghe Demetriade Str.
German specialties, sweets and drinks for sale. German Christmas music. Money to be used for charity.

Santa Claus’ Polar Express at Plaza Romania
When: December 6-21
Where: Plaza Romania Mall in Bucharest (26 Timisoara Blvd.)
A series of events dedicated to children, concerts, skating rink in the mall’s parking lot. More details on CityCompass.ro.

Most of the malls and large shopping galleries in Bucharest organise special events for children and shoppers in December.

The Sibiu Christmas Market
When: November 21 to December 26
Where: Sibiu, The Great Square
This fair was first organised in 2007. It hosts exhibitors and merchants from all over the country. Concerts of Romanian artists during the weekends. More here.

Similar Christmas fairs are organised in most of Romania’s large cities.
