Bucharest’s Gara de Nord main train station follows airport's example and plans to open special taxi area

07 August 2013

Bucharest’s Gara de Nord train station will have a special taxi area, similar to the one at Henri Coanda Airport, and its management will be selected by tender, reads a recent post on Gara de Nord’s Facebook page.  The invitation to tender for the new taxi area’s management was launched on Tuesday (August 6) and the deadline for bids is August 20, 2013.

Through this project, “we hope to get rid of the <pirate taxi drivers> and the continuous and uncivilized congestion of taxis in front of the train station’s main entrance,” reads the Facebook post. The Facebook page is among the railway station management's first steps in keeping up with the tech developments. Its recent measures also included placing a live feed of the arrivals and departures board, which can now be accessed via the Internet. It can be found here.

Gara de Nord railway station is managed by the National Railway Company CFR SA. It is the largest railway station in Romania, with 200 trains leaving and arriving on a daily basis, and around 20,000 passengers a day.
