Bucharest metro company Metrorex to buy EUR 107 mln trains from Spanish CAF

The Bucharest metro company Metrorex will buy 16 new trains from Spanish Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF), for some EUR 107.2 million. The other competitor in the bid was Bombardier, which supplied the existing stock of trains from Metrorex, but the price differenvce this time was of EUR 20 million.

The contract will be financed through a loan from the European Investments Bank and the state budget. Metrorex currently has 44 Bombardier trains and 31 older IVA trains.

CAF had a turnover of EUR 853.9 million in the first half of this year, while its EBITDA was of EUR 98.2 million.
