Banker: Bad loans could get to 10% in Romania next year

20 February 2015

Non-performing loans (NPL) could decrease next year to 10% of the total stock of loans, if last year’s pace was kept.

The share of bad loans dropped to 14% in 2014 from 23% in 2013, said Florin Danescu, executive president of the Romanian Banking Association, cited by local Mediafax.

Three quarters of the current bad loans belong to companies, half of which are under insolvency.

The NPLs value currently amounts to over EUR 6.7 billion, within a EUR 48 billion credit balance.

The value of bad loans reached a record low in November last year, namely EUR 5.98 billion.
