Romania's Govt. seeks EUR 800 mln loan from WB to pay family doctors

01 April 2019

Romania's Finance Ministry is negotiating with the World Bank a EUR 800 million loan for the payment of “additional services” provided by family doctors to the population, but also for “community medicine”, the Health Ministry quoted by News.ro announced on March 29.

Neither the ministry’s release nor the statements of healthcare minister Sorina Pintea shed light on the specific services that would be financed from the EUR 800 million loan. “Community medicine” hints to preventive services and minister Pintea speaks of some services “imported from the experience of other countries” that currently the family doctors provide to population free of charge.

The money from the WB will be among others used for the procurement of equipment for medical cabinets and for training primary medicine personnel.
