Change of strategy: Wizz Air brings in allocated seating

02 April 2015

Wizz Air, the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe, will introduce allocated seating starting May 2015. The decision, which aims to improve customer experience and comfort, aligns Wizz Air to other low cost airlines which have introduced allocated seating in recent years.

British carrier easyJet and Irish Ryanair, two of the major low-cost airlines in Europe, introduced allocated seating in November 2012, and November 2013 respectively. Romanian low-cost airline Blue Air, which is Wizz Air’s biggest competitor in Romania, also has allotted seating.

Allocated seats will be available on all its flights starting May 19, Wizz Air announced on Thursday, April 2. The new feature will be integrated in Wizz Air’s booking system starting April 8. The allocated seats are free of charge, but passengers will have to pay a fee if they want to change the seats the system allots them.

“Seat allocation is part of a series of experience improvement changes we have in plan for 2015 more of which we will announce soon,” said György Abrán, Wizz Air’s Chief Commercial Officer.
