The vice-president of the Romanian Energy Authority ANRE and a director from the energy company Enel Romania were recently taken into custody for bribery.

The ANRE vice-president Claudiu Dumbrăveanu and Florin Gugu, a director within Enel, will be sent to court with a proposal of a 30-day preventive arrest, together with Gheorghe Ciubotaru, an associate with ElectroAlfa International.

Dumbrăveanu is believed to have obtained for ElectroAlfa International two contracts with Enel worth some EUR 90,000. The contracts, which were officially obtained via the bidding system, were signed in November 2013 and in January 2014. In exchange for these, in June and October 2013, the Enel manager was offered preferential information and tariffs. The smaller tariffs saved some EUR 2.5 million for Enel, prosecutors have found.
