Unirea Shopping Center downtown Bucharest wants direct metro access, cinema

15 April 2014

The owners of the Unirea Shopping Center downtown Bucharest plan to connect the center directly to the nearby metro station this year, while expanding the entertainment area and welcoming new brands. After decreasing turnover and profit in 2013, the company that runs the store, and which is listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange wants to connect the Bucharest shop to the metro, and the shop by the same name in Brasov to the railway station. The owners also want to add cinemas, bowling and ice skating rink to both shopping centers, either within the existing facilities, or in adjoining locations, according to a report on the stock market.

In the Bucharest store, some 1,200 sqm will be freed out after some stores will relocate in the galleria which will connect to the metro station Unirea. Discussions are ongoing to bring in more brands from the Inditex group. H&M will also expand its existing shop with its home design addition on the second floor.

Unirea Shopping Center posted a turnover of EUR 17 million in 2013, and a net profit of EUR 630,000, down to half on 2012. The shop is owned by Dan and Carmen Adamescu, via the Nova Grou, with 74 percent of the shares.
