23 February 2015

Timber producer Holzindustrie Schweighofer has invested EUR 14 million in its new factory in Radauti, eastern Romania, and will hire 75 people there on the long-term.

In February this year, the new Schweighofer unit has started producing laminated wood beams, which people use to build Japanese traditional wooden houses.

The company has signed an exclusive contract with Meiken Lamwood Corporation, a local sawmill and Japan's leading manufacturer of laminated lumber.

The plant in Radauti will produce about 100,000 cubic meters of  laminated beams annually and will export them to Japan, reports local Capital.ro.

Holzindustrie Schweighofer, owned by the Austrian Schweighofer Group, is the only European company that produces these building materials for Japan.
