TATE museum committee & private art collectors meet Brancusi’s The Wisdom of the Earth at Romanian Artmark

Members of the committee of one of the world’s most famous art museums, TATE Modern from the UK, together with major international art collectors, are making a visit to Romania.

Romanian auction house Artmark, one of the cultural institutes hosting this visit, organized  on Monday, September 8, at the request of TATE Modern, a major private exhibition dedicated to the Romanian avant-garde artists from the beginning of the century, which gathers important international private art collectors to Bucharest.

One of the exhibition’s stars will be The Wisdom of the Earth (Cumintenia Pamantului) by Romanian sculptor Constantin Brancusi, probably one of the most important sculptures of Brancusi that is still on Romanian territory, now in a private collection. The work of art is up for sale and Artmark has notified the Romanian state about the potential sale, in case the state wants to buy it and add it to a museum. Its most recent evaluation is of EUR 20 million, according to Artmark.

Romanian artists such as Victor Brauner, Marcel Iancu, Arthur Segal, Hermann Maxy, Corneliu Michailescu, Gherasim Luca, Jules Perahim, George Misoznic, Jacques Herold, Paul Paun, Brassai, Hans Mattis Teutsch were on the front line of the regional avant-garde and will be present in the Showcasing Romanian Avant-garde Art, from private collections, TATE viewing private exhibition.

Among the most valuable works are also Dimitrie Paciurea’s Chimera of the Earth (Himera Pamantului), Port in the Mediterranean (Port la Mediterana) by Marcel Iancu and Nude (Nud) by Hans Mattis-Teutsch.
