Study: Bucharesters are processed food fans and exercise regularly. What about the rest of Romania?

14 January 2015

A recent study shows more Romanian women than men consider fruits and vegetables important for a healthy lifestyle, and highlights capital Bucharest lagging behind the rest of Romania on the number of fresh food fans. Despite the fact that most Bucharesters prefer processed food, they also like to exercise on a regular basis.

Seven out of ten Romanians link the idea of a healthy lifestyle to eating fruits and vegetables and almost half of Romanians link it to fresh, very little processed food, according to a study conducted by GfK.

Almost three quarters of women consider fruit and vegetable consumption is important, compared to only two thirds of men. The situation is similar when it comes to the benefits of eating fresh food, very little cooked or processed – 52% of women see the benefits of eating such food, more than the 42% registered in men’s case.

Based on regions, inhabitants of the Banat-Crişana-Maramureş region in Northern Romania pay more attention to nutrition, 80% of them linking fruit and vegetable consumption to a healthy lifestyle, while 57% consider fresh food is an important factor.

By contrast, Dobrogea region registers the lowest number of fruits and vegetables fans – 67%, while only 37% of Bucharest’s inhabitants prefer fresh food. Seven out of ten residents of the capital believe however that exercise has an important contribution when it comes to a healthy lifestyle, six out of ten doing regular exercise.

The study was conducted by GfK Romania on a sample of over 1,000 people aged over 15.
