Samsung bets on the new Galaxy S6 to reach 50% market share in Romania

18 March 2015

South Korean electronics producer Samsung expects its new flagship models, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge, to help the company reach a 50% share of the smartphone market in Romania.

“I’m confident that the new Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge will have better sales than the S5, just like every new version of the Galaxy S model had better sales than the previous one,” said Alexandru Munteanu, Head of Telecom Division with Samsung Electronics Romania.

“We expect that the new Galaxy S6 will help us achieve our goal to reach 50% market share in Romania,” he added. He didn’t say how many units of the new model Samsung plans to sell in Romania or how many units of the S5 it has sold so far.

The smartphone market in Romania last year reached some 2.4 million units. “This year, we expect the market will increase by 30%. Sales were very good in the first two months of this year,” Munteanu said.

Samsung officially launched its Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge models in Romania in an event on Tuesday. The presales campaign for the new model starts this week, and the models will be available starting mid-April.

The new models have a metal casing and glass display and integrate the most advanced Samsung technology. The Galaxy S6 edge has a curved display on both sides. Another novelty is the possibility to charge the battery wireless just by placing the phone over a special loading dock (both for the S6 and S6 edge).
