Romania’s Transport Ministry gets EUR 724 mln from EU for two highways

26 September 2011

The Romanian Ministry of Transport will receive a grant of EUR 724 million from the European Union (EU) for the construction of two highways in Romania, namely Nadlac-Arad and Orastie-Sibiu, the amount being approved by the European Commission.

“The approval of the European funding for these two projects will lead to an increased absorption rate of EU funds from the Ministry of Transport by the end of the year, following that in 2012 and 2013 to fully spend the EUR 2 billion allocated for road infrastructure projects,” said Anca Boagiu, the Romanian Minister of Transport.

For the construction of Nadlac-Arad highway the Ministry of Transport will receive about EUR 213 million from the EU Cohesion Fund, while for Orastie-Sibiu section, the grant will be EUR 510.2 million. Both roads are expected to be completed in 2013.
