Romania's Nuclearelectrica pays EUR 13.3 mln in special construction tax

Romanian state-owned energy producer Nuclearelectrica, which runs the Cernavoda nuclear power plant, will pay this year about EUR 13.3 million on the special constructions tax, down 32% compared to the EUR 19.7 million paid in 2014, due to decrease in the tax, from 1.5% to 1%, reports local Wall-street.ro.

The special construction tax, also called the ‘pole tax’, was introduced by the Government last year. Earlier this year, the Government decided to decrease the tax from 1.5% to 1%. T

he Government initially anticipated that it would collect EUR 111 million through this tax, but later estimates indicate EUR 333 million revenues.

The introduction of the special construction tax had an impact on Nuclearelectrica's profit, which went down by 70% year-on-year in the first nine months of 2014.
