Romania's governing party brings young blood into Government

08 February 2012

The Democratic Liberal party (PDL) announced a list of proposed ministers on behalf of its party on Wednesday morning ( February 8 ). The announcement was made by the previous Prime Minister Emil Boc, who resigned on Monday morning, but who remained head of the PDL, and who was in charge of proposing the new names.

The Government was almost fully reshuffled. Several ministers from the previous formula have been kept: Catalin Predoiu, the Justice Minister, who also acts as interim PM until the new team will be in place, and Leonard Orban, European Affairs Minister, among others.

Most of the newly - proposed ministers for the new cabinet are in their early to late 30s and early 40, making it one of the youngest cabinets in Romania. Analysts commented on the new Government formula saying it is made of young politicians, who can be easier manipulated.

The party counts on enough votes in the Parliament to have the new formula validated in the voting sessions scheduled for Thursday ( February 9 ). The designated Prime Minister is Razvan Ungureanu, who is expected to announce the full list of proposals today.

The new names on the list include Bogdan Dragoi, 33, the current state secretary in the Finance Ministry, proposed for the Ministerial seat.
