Romania's football team secure a trouble free 4-0 victory over Trinidad & Tobago in international friendly

05 June 2013

Romania's national football team enjoyed a fuss-free 4 – 0 victory over Trinidad & Tobago yesterday evening (June 4) in an international friendly. Victor Piturca's squad were untroubled by the visitors from the tiny Caribbean island state and although it took Romania more than half and hour to open the scoring, the result at the National Arena was never in any real doubt.

If it was good night for Romania, it was a great night for striker Ciprian Marica. He started Romania's goal tally in the 31st minute when Goian's header set him up for shot from six yards out. The Trinidad & Tobago goalkeeper blocked, but the ball fell again for Marica, who made no mistakes on the second attempt. Just two minutes later, Marica struck again, this time set up by Bogdan Stancu for a longer range effort that left the goalkeeper with no chance. There were no further goals in the first 45 minutes and Romania headed out for the second half 2 – 0 up thanks to Ciprian Marica's efforts.

With only four minutes of the second half played, Trinidad & Tobago suffered the misery of an own-goal when Cyrus' attempt at a defensive header from a Grozav cross sailed past goalkeeper Phillip. Romania's manager Victor Piturca took the opportunity to make a number of substitutions in the second half, safe in the knowledge that Trinidad & Tobago were unlikely to trouble his squad.

In the last ten minutes, Ciprian Marica completed his hat-trick with a header from the edge of the box following a corner. Around 10,000 turned out for the match, a fraction of the arena's capacity.
