The Sebes-Turda highway section will be ready in two years, said Transport Minister Ioan Rus, whereas work for the Sibiu-Pitesti highway should start in 2018.

The Minister said that the General Master Plan for Transportation includes the modernization of 7 international airports and 10 Danube ports.

The transport interconnectivity between Romania’s historical regions could be solved in the next four years, Rus added.

The Sibiu-Pitesti section is considered a top priority in the Transportation Master Plan and will be built by 2020. The project is estimated at EUR 1.6 billion (without VAT), according to the Transport Ministry.

The General Master Plan for Transportation is a strategic document based on which Romania will access European funds for transport between 2014 and 2020.
