Romanian sets his car on fire to protest against corruption

29 January 2016

A Romanian has found a different way of protesting against corruption: he set his car on fire.

The incident occurred on Friday morning, around 11:00. The man, aged 66, has started the fire on Calea Plevnei in Bucharest, in front of the building hosting the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM), reports local Mediafax.

Two fire trucks arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire. The man was taken to a police station in Bucharest for questioning.

The incident comes a week after another man has crashed his car into the fence surrounding the Victoria Palace in Bucharest (the building that hosts the Romanian Government). According to him, his gesture was a sign of protest, as he was trying to show that terrorist attacks can also take place in Romania.
