Romanian PM: Solutions sought to export electricity to Moldova

16 January 2015

Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta announced Thursday, January 15,  that he would discuss with the Republic of Moldova's PM Iurie Leanca to find solutions for Romania to export electricity to neighboring Republic of Moldova.

"Romania has electricity. The problem is that we don't have the necessary transport capacities," Ponta said, cited by local Economica.net.

The PM was asked whether the Romanian Government intends to support Moldova with electricity, given Ukraine's announcement about ceasing electricity export to Moldova. Ukraine has decided to suspend all electricity exports to Moldova and Belarus because of insufficient energy on its internal market, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy's press service.
