Romanian Government paid EUR 24 mln to the Orthodox Church last year

The Romanian Government gave almost EUR 29 million to churches last year, EUR 24.3 million of which went to the Orthodox Church, through the state budget, budget amendment and other acts, while the money given for building and repairing churches amounted to EUR 14.2 million in 2012, and EUR 7.7 million in 2013, reports local Wall-street.ro.

A larger amount was paid by the Government to build and repair churches in 2008, which was also an election year, during the Tariceanu Cabinet, when the funds allocated amounted to EUR 59.2 million.
