Romania has commercial surplus on agricultural products after 8 months

13 November 2014

Romania has witnessed commercial surplus on the food, beverages and tobacco segment, in the first eight months of this year, as food exports totaled EUR 3.27 billion, 11.4% more year-on-year, according to Agriculture Minister Daniel Constantin, quoted by Agerpres newswire.

The country has a EUR 140.6 million commercial surplus on the agricultural products segment, in the first eight months, compared to a commercial deficit of EUR 137 million in the same period of 2013.

Last year ended with a commercial surplus, and so will this year, Constantin said. Wheat, corn, cigarettes and rapeseeds were the most exported products.

The minister believes the Constanta harbor has become the most important in Europe, exceeding Rouen in France, as cereal exports through Constanta will exceed 15.3 million tons.
