Romania doubles motorway target by 2030

11 February 2015

Romania’s updated Transport Master Plan has included the construction of 1,300 km of highways by 2030.

This is almost double compared to the level established in the first version of the document, namely 645 km.

Following the public debate, the updated document provides the construction of various highways segments which were earlier seen as express roads. Besides the 1,300 km of highways, the plan features 1,877 km of express roads,  3,147 km of Trans Regio and Euro Trans roads.

“The investment in the road sector amounts to EUR 26.48 billion, half of which is destined for highways,” reads the Transport Ministry’s document, cited by local Mediafax.

The General Master Plan for Transportation is a strategic document based on which Romania will access European Funds for transport for the 2014-2020 period.
