Retailer Mega Image enjoys a certain monopoly in certain areas of Bucharest and it exceeds a 40% market share in some areas, following the merger with German retailer Angst, say several retailers.

They also complain that the increase in the number of stores under one brand limits competition and consumer choice.

The Competition Council has asked retailers for their opinion on the merger between Angst and Mega Image. The Council has received observations from Auchan, Carrefour, Profi, Billa, Lidl Discount, Cora, Penny Market and Cristim on possible effects stemming from economic concentration, reports local Mediafax.

In November last year, the Competition Council approved Mega Image’s takeover of 19 Angst stores.
