Police fire warning shots in Bucharest to stop violent driver

07 October 2016

Bucharest Police fired two warning shots on Thursday, October 6, trying to stop an aggressive driving from running away.

At around 23:10, the police officers noticed a strange thing on one of the streets in Bucharest’s District 1: a woman on the hood of a car, who was screaming for help. They asked the driver to stop, but he refused. That is when the police officers fired two warning shots, trying to stop the driver, and started following the car.

After about 100 meters, the driver braked, and the woman fell off the car’s hood. He then drove off, but lost control of the car and stopped in a protective fence of the tramway.

That was the moment when the police officers managed to catch the violent driver. They detained him and took him to the station. Following investigations, the police found out that the woman on the hood was the man’s former girlfriend. The two broke up due to the young man’s violent behavior generated by excessive jealousy.

At the time of the incident, the two had a fight and the woman placed herself in front of the car. The man didn’t care and drove off, taking the woman on the hood.

The police are currently continuing the investigation, charging the aggressive driver with battery or other violent acts, as well as disturbing public order. The man is still in police custody.
