Petrom CEO, first president of UN’s Global Compact in Romania

Mariana Gheorghe, the CEO of OMV Petrom group, was elected the first president of the Global Compact Network Romania.

This is a UN strategic policy initiative for businesses that are committed to aligning their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption. Romania became the 88th country that joined the network.

The Romanian Academy hosted the launch event on May 15. Some 23 organizations in Romania, most of which large multinationals, signed the founding agreement.

The 23 founding members also elected a Board of Directors of seven people: Mariana Gheorghe, CEO of OMV Petrom, Steven van Groningen, president and CEO of Raiffeisen Bank Romania, Nikolai Beckers, CEO of Telekom Romania, Bogdan Ion, Country Managing Partner EY Romania, Jaak Mikkel, General Manager Coca Cola HBC Romania, Dora Surugiu, Maastricht School of Management Bucharest, and Brent Valmar, General Manager Porsche Romania.
